There is no greater power than an idea whose time has come.
We had a really good women's peace event today =)
You can all see our work on the new display about important women throughout history and what we love about being a women.
Take some inspiration from some of the quotes on the board too!
Well when I first turned up to the project six months ago I was unsure what to expect, I had read up on the project on the internet so I thought I knew a little of what they were about. I thought it was a run of the mill community centre/project. Little did I know at the time how wrong I was!
Read on for what I found out about what FolesHillfields is really like!
We had a great 100th International Women's Day celebration event. Around 40 women and 12 children from a mix of cultures and backgrounds came together to enjoy a whole day of art activities, massage and mehndi. We also shared stories, danced and had lots food and fun! The women also had an opportunity to contribute to our tree of inspirational women ... and it was truly inspiring and touching reading them.
So yesterday (March 8th) we celebrated the 100th year of International Women's Day. Before coming to work at this project I didn't know much about it and what a special and important day it is. So I would like to share with you a little of what I have learnt.
We had a really lovely women's peace event today. A very diverse group of 41 women and about six children had a relaxed and friendly time together - we embroidered a brilliant peace patchwork and chatted and ate delicious food.
A good time was had by all. Uzma had this to say:
Had another great women's event. The first of a two part inter-cultural event, also part of Coventry Peace Festival 2010. Lots of good conversations, delicious food and a great start was made on our patchwork.
The next event is on Tuesday 9th November 12-3pm. Women only. Children welcome.
Hello Everyone!!
It was great to meet everyone again today and it was so nice that people remembered my name from the women's pamper day. The room was thriving with people from all ages and cultural backgrounds and it was so nice to see everyone just hanging out and having fun. I felt so much more comfortable as I felt I knew people a little bit more and they knew me too.
Hi! I have been at FolesHillfields Vision Project about three weeks now. It has been so great to meet everyone . I feel so lucky to have the chance to experience and chat with people from all different faiths and backgrounds. Especially understanding and appreciating the different roles women play within their community and in life in general. Coventry Peace Festival is coming up soon and as part of that we have some exciting events.
Upon arriving at the women's pamper day I was greeted with a room full of smiling women of all ages and backgrounds.
The room was alive with chatter and laughter, and immediately I knew I was going to have fun! There was lots to do, and along with my friends I enjoyed having henna applied to my hands. It was also great to see the beautician's hair and make-up transformations on the women. I felt the day was hugely popular among the ladies, not only because of the pampering but also due to the great food!
Hi! I am Michelle and I have just started working at the FolesHillfields Vision Project as a Women's Development Assistant. I am 25 years old and have just finished university.
Alongside my studies I have volunteered for several community groups which has confirmed my interest in community work and development. I have a keen interest in health and animals and am generally a very happy lady! One of my first activities here was a Women's Pamper Day (which Raadia also wrote about)
