People at the community IftariWe hosted our second Community Iftari this year.

Below are some comments from the some of the people that came along, to make it another fantastic and memorable occasion.

Big day!

Eid Celebration

In open office (drop in every Wednesday 2-4pm) we had a Eid celebration. It was a great opportunity to enjoy some lovely food and mark the end of Ramadan.

Iftari: non-Muslims' experiences

A few weeks ago, we held our first Community Iftari celebration, for Muslims and non-Muslims - Fatima has already written about organising that and how well it went.

Read on for more from me and some other non-Muslims about the experience.

Our first Community Iftari

"Welcome to our Iftar" posterOn Wednesday the 25th of August. FolesHillfields Vision Project hosted our very first Community Iftari, to bring together Muslims and non-Muslims.

During the holy month of Ramadan, Muslims refrain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk.

The Iftar meal is the high point of a fasting persons day. There is often a lot of chatting and laughter around the table. Since its a festival of giving and sharing, Muslims prepare special dishes and invite friends and family to have iftari together.

Eid at 6 Paul Stacey

a plate of datesAt our regular drop-in Open House session (Wednesdays 2-4pm) we had an Eid celebration. It was a great opportunity to enjoy some lovely food and mark the end of Ramadan with people of different backgrounds and faiths.

There was a nice mix of people, from regulars to a group of new women that came to our women's pamper day the day before. We also had a lovely lady called Betty who, at 82 years old and having lived in Hillfields all her life, entertained us with stories of celebrations and history.

Eid Mubarak - Shana Tova!

Two rappersThis year the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan - Eid - and the Jewish New Year - Rosh Hashanah - have arrived at the same time.

There's a nice article in the Jewish Chronicle about the similarities of the two celebrations. What do you love about one or other or both?

Women's Interfaith Coffee Morning

women_interfaith_coffee_morning_mediumLike on most of our Wednesdays, this week too we had a women's coffee morning. Only this time, it had a theme – an inter-faith coffee morning. And by the end it proved to be just that.
