Eid/Hanukkah/Christmas Celebration - December 2009

We had our Christmas/Eid/Hanukkah event and it was really lovely, with over 50 people coming including Jews, Christians and Muslims (as well as people from Sikh, Hindu, Zoroastrian, Buddhist, Bahai and atheists backgrounds). We ate doughnuts and latkes (potato cakes) (for Hanukkah); roast chicken, stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce (for Christmas); and seerkomo (milky pudding/drink) and Samosas (for Eid) - as well as chocolate money (for all three!).

We also played Dreidels, and Pass the Parcel and had time to mix and mingle and get everyone talking to someone new and different. Mehru Fitter of Coventry Multi-Faith Forum provided great materials for displays on all three festivals.

Below are some of the comments from people who came and had fun:

Eid MubarakEid MubarakAlong with everyone else, I'm sure, I really enjoyed myself today!

Seeing everyone's happy faces, had me smiling throughout the party. Sadly, I only caught the last half-hour, but got to play an awesome game of pass-the-parcel where embarrassingly I was made to impersonate the crazy frog! Yaay! I have to say, the live music provided by Mark was quite impressive, and Mark-I would definitely buy that Spanish number u were strumming! :P

As always, the Christmas, Eid and Hanukkah celebration hosted by FolesHillfields was fun, filled with food and festive! :D If only we could have partied all night!

Happy HannukahHappy HannukahI second Raadia! And was already writing it down in my diary under the title "life's missing moments" as haven't been to any sort of gathering in a long time, so lively, full of activities, friendly people (and i mean it) and especially especially "food" was wicked. I was getting confused time and again about what am I eating and looking at other people's plates ;-) (especially Tiur's, hope spelt right) to see what am I missing and then would look around for you to get some introduction, but bless & thanks to Fatima and also Amanpreet for such friendly help and intro.

Did feel a bit strange with time as wasn't expecting sooooo many people to be attending (which was indeed great) but since not being a regular, didn't know most of them. But now not only I would try to visit you more often and be part of the project but also would take this opportunity to get to know all of you.     Merry ChristmasMerry Christmas

 Peace and Blessings!  - Fareed

Getting ReadyGetting ReadyThank you for a wonderful and truly enjoyable end of year party, celebrating three festivals. I was glad to be part of a caring international family. The food was great, the welcome accorded to everyone was exemplary and the setting showed a high degree of imagination. I know that I passed my first challenge - having a chat with people whom I had not met before.

What happened as a matter of course was the bridging of cultures. No wonder you won the Award for Bridging Cultures.
