Introducing Angela

Hello from Angela Knight, the newest member of the FolesHillfields Vision team. I joined the project in May this year on a part-time basis.

So what has the last six months been like? This is an interesting organisation to work for, unlike any other organisation I've worked in before, and I have years of experience of working in Voluntary and Community organisations. When I first started the team were deep in the throes of Global Citizenship so I never really saw much of them, however this gave me an opportunity to familiarise myself with the office, current systems, etc.

My 'job title' is Office Manager, but as is true of most voluntary & community organisations, everyone does a little bit of everything and this is very definitely the case here. One day I could be in the office searching for potential funding, or drafting/updating policies, the next I could be sitting and talking with people during Open Office, or in the kitchen cooking Caribbean food!

Over the summer we spent a lot of time revisiting the vision and planning for the future, for me this was very useful as it gave me a better understanding of what the organisation is about.

When I'm not at FolesHillfields I work for ACCOL (African Caribbean Community Organisation) a not for profit organisation that acts as an umbrella organisation for other African Caribbean organisations in the City. My role there is also varied, from producing a quarterly magazine, to organising meetings and events. People often use us as a first point of call for all sorts of problems so we are often signposting people.

I am also a Board member at the West Indian Centre in Spon Street, a volunteer role which takes up most of the rest of my spare time.

Other commitments: I am Chair of the Coventry Supplementary Schools Forum and a Governor at Henley College Coventry.

With what little spare time I do have I enjoy cooking, spending time with family and travelling, although I don't have chance to do much of that.
