FolesHillfields is ...

Solange eating with a friend... a place to be yourself, to talk about everything and nothing.

Thanks from a volunteer

Portrait of NetraI feel privileged to have spent my time in Coventry specially with FolesHillfield Vision Project, while I was doing MA in Peace and Reconciliation Studies in the Coventry University in 2007-08.

Chatting about something (or possibly nothing) of importance

Mysterious Indus Valley script One of the things people notice when they first come to the FolesHillfields Vision Project is the variety of languages and scripts on the walls, but there isn't anything like this - which is a undecipherable language found in the Indus Valley and is thought to date from

My experience at FolesHillfields Vision Project

My name is Thuthirna

I am a A level student, I have been volunteering at FoleHillfields Vision Project since 2 months.

During these 2 months, I have learnt a lot about volunteering. This experience has bought me better communicating skills and a good understanding of people from different background. I have also learnt how to use IT in a different way. I am familiar with ubuntu and linux even if I use Windows XP at home.

Healthy Summer Meeting

in

Last Wednesday, the afternoon Open Office was used for planning events for 'FolesHillfields Healthy Summer'.

The meeting was attended by the team, volunteers and officers of the council. After the initial "whats your name and where do you come from", we did a number of activities to get people talking on what could possibly be done, then comparing them to ideas that were already in the pot.

Going to Brussels

Logo

On Sunday,  the whole core team (Aman, Angela, Fatima, Heather and Mark) are off to Brussels for a few days! We're going to visit an annual conference of Foundations, with JRCT - the big Charity that funds Heather and Mark

We're going to be meeting some interesting people and organisations and hopefully making some useful connections for the future - either in terms of Foundations that might be interested in funding us or people and organisations that we might work with in the future.

Website training day

in

Today is website training day. I am a little nervous as I am not very good with I.T. but I am ready to give it a go!

Mathew our trainer has already showed us how to create a new page, categorise titles with colours and upload photos. It hasn't been as hard or scary as I thought. I've been asking lots of silly questions and Mathew has been patiently answering them and showing me how to get out of little fixes!

I've had a play around - putting photos on news articles, changing sizes and inserting them amongst texts. I think I need to still practice doing this a little more.

First Day Of Volunteering: Start Of The New Website Training

This morning we are being taught by Matthew from Illuminate on how to edit the new website as well as updating blogs and news articles.

It was quite daunting to start off with but then became really simple (once I got the hang of things :P). Getting a hand of how to upload pictures was a little tricky but after you play about with it it becomes simple (-ish).

The stress of image...

in

This is going to seem like a bit of a random post, but i think i'm going to start blogging more with some outbursts and liven up the website a bit.

I was watching this documentary on feminism, and one of the girls that was talking made a point that really made me think. She was talking about how she hated that her consciousness about the way that she looked could sometimes take her attention away from the other important things that went on in her life. It really made me think!!

Feedback from women's day event

Some feedback from women who attended our International Women's Day event on Monday:

Two friends at women's lunchWe had a great time today. We learnt about International Womens Day, which we knew nothing about before. We have really enjoyed this rare chance to celebrate everything great about being a women!!

Lovely meeting some new people. The food was wonderful, but the atmosphere and especially the dancing has been great fun. We love coming here and today has been extra special!
