Circus Skills and a Nature Reserve

With the results of our baloon modelling ...We have been working with Warwickshire Wildlife Trust to put on a short series of circus skills training sessions, followed by a circus skills event at Yardley Street youth centre. Over the course of the training sessions we all learnt lots of new skills, like manipulating diaboloes, riding unicycles, making balloon animals, spinning plates and juggling (which Abdullah got very good at). And there was more!

We also tackled stilt walking, which after many attempts I got the hang of. We all really enjoyed going down to the Trust's HQ at Brandon Marsh Nature Reserve and seeing the place as well as learning new skills.

Young people lying on the floor holding spinning plates

On 24th February we put on a session for some younger people at Yardley Street. We taught them all the skills we had been learning over the past sessions. Mitesh showed the young people how to hula-hoop, Earl showed us all how to catch disks with his head and Looch put on some magic tricks. The rest of our team helped teach lots of other tricks as well. I was very impressed with how quickly the young people managed to learn the tricks and then started making up their own. At the end of the event the young people showcased their talent and it was amazing to see what they had learnt over the last few hours.

I would like to say thank you to the Wildlife Trust for putting on this event and a thank you also to Rowan for teaching us the skills. I know that I had fun, and I am sure the rest of the people from FolesHillfields Vision Project and the young people at Yardley Street enjoyed it too.
